Hotel Bohinj recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, marking five years since the completely renovated hotel opened its doors in July 2021.
DMC Slovenia was delighted to join the celebration and recognise this important milestone together with the hotel’s team, partners and friends. The evening reflected everything that makes Hotel Bohinj special: warm hospitality, contemporary creativity and a genuine connection to the destination.
Congratulations to the entire Hotel Bohinj team on five successful years!
A new chapter for an iconic Bohinj hotel
Hotel Bohinj began its new story following an extensive renovation that transformed the former Hotel Kompas into a contemporary four-star Alpine property.
The hotel reopened with 69 rooms, a restaurant, wellness facilities, a conference room and inviting social spaces. Its architecture and interior design draw inspiration from Bohinj’s landscape, craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
Natural materials, Alpine colours and local stories can be found throughout the hotel. Design details reference traditional hayracks, the surrounding mountain peaks and the four courageous men from Bohinj who became the first to reach the summit of Mount Triglav in 1778.
Rather than existing separately from its surroundings, Hotel Bohinj brings the identity of the destination into the guest experience.

Sustainability rooted in the destination
Hotel Bohinj’s renovation and daily operations reflect a strong commitment to sustainability.
Natural and recycled materials were incorporated into the redesigned property, while energy-efficient systems help reduce the hotel’s environmental impact. The hotel also works with local suppliers, promotes responsible mobility and supports experiences connected to Bohinj’s people and traditions.
These values are especially important because the hotel is located in the heart of Triglav National Park, only a short walk from Lake Bohinj. Here, tourism and hospitality must develop in harmony with the protected natural environment.
The hotel’s sustainability efforts have been recognised with the EU Ecolabel and Slovenia Green certifications.
Discovering Bohinj
Bohinj is one of Slovenia’s most impressive Alpine destinations. Surrounded by the Julian Alps, its landscape is defined by Lake Bohinj, Mount Triglav, traditional villages, forests, mountain pastures and waterfalls.
The destination changes character with every season.
In spring and summer, groups can enjoy hiking, cycling, kayaking, canoeing and panoramic mountain experiences. Autumn brings colourful forests, quieter trails and culinary encounters, while winter opens possibilities for skiing, snowshoeing and peaceful retreats surrounded by snow-covered peaks.
Popular experiences in the Bohinj area include:
- A panoramic cable-car journey to Mount Vogel
- Hiking through the Mostnica Gorge and Voje Valley
- Kayaking or canoeing on Lake Bohinj
- Cycling through traditional Alpine villages
- Visiting Savica Waterfall
- Discovering local cheese-making traditions
- Meeting farmers and regional food producers
- Wellness and yoga experiences in nature
- Snowshoeing and winter hiking
- Torchlit evening walks beside the lake
Bohinj’s authenticity and slower rhythm allow visitors to experience the Slovenian Alps beyond the traditional sightseeing programme.
Bohinj for incentives and corporate retreats
Hotel Bohinj and the surrounding area provide an inspiring setting for incentive travel, smaller meetings and corporate retreats.
The peaceful environment helps participants disconnect from their daily routines, while the surrounding landscape creates opportunities for active programmes, wellbeing and team connection.
A programme based at Hotel Bohinj can combine:
- Meetings and workshops at the hotel
- Outdoor team-building activities
- Local culinary experiences
- Private Alpine dinners
- Guided nature activities
- Wellness and mindfulness sessions
- Cultural encounters with local residents
- Excursions to Lake Bled and Ljubljana
Slovenia’s compact size also makes Bohinj easy to combine with other destinations. Groups can arrive through Ljubljana Airport, visit Lake Bled on the way and continue to Bohinj without spending long hours travelling.
Celebrating people, partnerships and hospitality
The fifth-anniversary celebration was not only about the hotel itself. It was also an opportunity to recognise the people who bring it to life every day.
Successful group experiences depend on strong cooperation between hotels, local suppliers, guides, transport providers and destination experts. At DMC Slovenia, we value trusted partnerships that enable us to create authentic programmes and provide dependable on-site delivery.
Hotel Bohinj has become an important part of the hospitality landscape in the Slovenian Alps, offering international guests a contemporary experience that remains closely connected to local identity.
